Title: Thermodynamics Teacher and Student Guides (6 Activities)
Summary:

This is a hands-on laboratory unit exploring the concepts of heat and movement. Teachers set up six laboratory stations that will introduce students to the basic concepts of thermodynamics, including atomic structure, atomic and molecular motion, states of matter, heat transfer, thermal expansion, specific heat, and heats of fusion and vaporization. It also includes a unit exam and teacher demonstrations. The labs are:

  • Lab 1: Matter & Forces of Attraction
  • Lab 2: Heat Transfer by Conduction
  • Lab 3: Convection & Radiation
  • Lab 4: Expansion & Contraction
  • Lab 5: Specific Heat
  • Lab 6: Heat of Fusion & Vaporization
Curriculum: Science, Math, Language Arts
Plan Time: 8-10 class periods plus homework
